With rapid changes underway in both print media and in broadcasting, how are important environmental sustainability issues being reported? Is popular media able to accurately present complicated, science-based topics? What is the role of the so-called "New Media"?  How are blogs, Twitter, social networking and other changes to media impacting environmental literacy? Join us as a panel of experts looks at the ways media coverage affects sustainability and policy making.

Featuring:

  • Alex Mulcahy, President of Red Flag Media and Publisher of GRID magazine will share his local success story in starting a magazine with a focus on sustainability in the Philadelphia region.   He will discuss obstacles, achievements and the role GRID and other niche media play in informing the public.
  • (Moderator) Sandy Shea, Editorial page Editor for the Daily News

Center for Environmental Policy

The goals of the Center for Environmental Policy (CEP) at The Academy of Natural Sciences are to evaluate key issues of environmental policy, facilitate dialogues and decision-making on environmental topics, and inform the public from both an academic as well as practical perspective.  The CEP will answer the need for a non-partisan, science-based organization that is capable of accessing and guiding a myriad of public and private stakeholders.

For more information on current CEP projects and initiatives, please see www.ansp.org/environmental/index.php
